There's no talent shortage. There's an intelligence shortage. We mapped 54,929 embedded engineers across 169 companies — and two weeks ago Kernel concentrated 61% into ~15 silicon firms. Embedded is the mirror image:

Because embedded spreads across five industries, the deepest pools are almost nobody's first call for "embedded": the single retail-tech firm holding 10.5% of the pool, and the 32 aerospace/defense firms (safety-critical, DO-178). They're full of exactly the C/C++/RTOS engineers your role needs.
